GWPCSC History The German Wirehaired Pointer Club of Southern California, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation. It is an official breed club registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC), and our parent club is the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA). The GWPCSC was started in the late 70s by Fran Zinsley and Sue Decker to join together the growing number of German Wirehaired Pointer owners. 1. What does the GWPCSC do? The GWPCSC engages in activities to promote public education, breed rescue, and fun among its members. The GWPCSC sponsors several AKC events per year including one Show Specialty and one Supported Entry Show, one Hunt Test and one Field Trial. Our Specialty is held at the Pasadena Kennel Club show held around June first, and our Supported Entry is usually held at the Burbank show in September; (see the Jack Bradshaw for information on dog shows). Our AKC Hunt Tests and Field Trials are often held in the high desert areas outside California City, near Edwards Air Force Base. These are designed to show the dogs abilities in the field. In addition to AKC events, our club is involved in educating the public about the GWP´s, usually through our participation at the Pet Fair, held annually in April. We are involved in GWP rescue and placement (see our Rescue page ). Finally, we sponsor fun days for mingling and learning. At fun days, our more experienced members introduce newcomers to grooming, show, field, obedience and agility events. In general, GWPCSC activities are all about having fun with our dogs and helping each other. 2. When does the GWPCSC meet? The general membership of the GWPCSC meets about four times each year including late Winter and Spring meetings to nominate and then vote for new officers and board members. Usually, brief club meetings are held at club events. Notices are given in the Hotwire newsletter and in the Events web page. 3.
