ELECTION RESULTS

Your new club officers for the year 2001-2002 are as follows: President Nikki Litwin; Vice-President Tom Collins; Treasurer Fran Kidder; Recording Secretary Karla Weber; and Corresponding Secretary - Karen Nelsen. In addition, the Board Members are: Linda Ercoli, Jim Kidder, Don Magoon and John Morrison.

Please communicate directly with any officer or board member if you have questions, club concerns, or would like to volunteer to help with anything.

OTHER BOARD MATTERS

At a recent Board meeting, the following appointments and events were discussed and approved:

Joan Payton has graciously volunteered to be Show Chairman again. Joan does a great job organizing both our Specialty Show and the Supported Entry. She does a wonderful job selecting trophies and awards, however her best efforts are put forth begging for donations.

Jim Kidder will be the Equipment Manager in charge of the club trailer. He will be responsible for the general maintenance of the trailer, schlepping it to and from events, and securing members to help repaint it. Karen Nelsen will be the “back-up” person in case Jim is unable to cart it to an event.

Nikki Litwin has again graciously volunteered (yeah, sure!) to be the Special Events Coordinator and the contact person for GWP Rescue. If you don’t volunteer to help with an event, Nikki will gladly appoint you!

Harvey Rawn, our resident computer guru, has agreed to continue as Webmaster. The Club’s web address is noted at the heading of the newsletter. If the editor can figure out how to “attach” the newsletter to Harvey, it will appear on our website in addition to whatever else Harvey has on it.

The Hunt Test will be October 13th/14th. Linda Ercoli is the Chairperson and Karla Weber is the Secretary. There will be only one hunt test hosted by the club this year as there is a severe shortage of workers.
The Field Trial will be March 2nd/3rd, 2002. Don Magoon is the Chairman and, at this time, Karen Nelsen is the Secretary. It will be held in California City. The GSP people had asked if our club could switch dates with theirs as they are putting together a national event. As is the case of the Hunt Test, only one Field Trial will be held as there is a dearth of workers. It had been suggested to hold an all-walking trial, but without additional help, the few workers we have are on an “energy black out”!

V. I. I. Very Important Info
Please read

September 9th - Fun Day and Club meeting. It will be held at Rahaugee’s and open to GWP members only. The field training portion of the event will be conducted by eminent dog trainer (and club member), John Morrison. John is putting on a training seminar to help YOU train your dog…

There will be a slight fee (about $7) to cover the cost of that most wonderful of upland game birds pigeons. The club will not be providing lunch or drinks, so please bring food for you and lots of water for the pooch. Exact location of the event will be announced soon, but please put the date on your calendar NOW!

November 17th - Trailer Refurbishing Day. The Club equipment trailer is in dire straights. (no, not the rock band...) Dominic Milano and his trusty side-kick, Tom Collins have agreed to coordinate efforts to get the trailer ready for the upcoming season. We need lots of helping hands! We need to clean it out, repair any damaged goods, and organize its innerds! So if you’re good at any of the above please come out and help. This event will be held at Jimmy and Linda Rice’s (cuz that’s where the trailer is…)

January 6, 2002 Club Meeting to be held at Don and Cathy Magoon’s home in Norco. More details as date grows closer, but put it on your calendar.

G.W.P.C.A. National Events

Packets have been recently mailed to all members of the parent club, the GWPCA, will all the information about the national events to be held in Ionia, Michigan. The Fort Detroit Club is hosting the event. If you are not a member of the national club, and would like more information about the events, please contact Karen Nelsen at (310) 530-3264 or by email at ruwyrd@aol.com.

SAD NEWS

Condolences to Karla Weber on the loss of her beloved GWP “Traveler”. The T-man was a rescue from long ago. He was noted for his Mohawk hairdo.

And to Linda Ercoli, whose long time friend and companion, “Ernie”, also died. Even though Ernie was a SharPei, he was a ‘wirehair at heart!

A Note from the Editor

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, and Club Members: If you have a brag, please feel free to email any information to me. If it involves a show, hunting test or field trial, please be sure to give me the name of the event/show and what your dog did. I would like to have the full registered name of the dog and his/her owner/handler. I will not print any hunting test scores, as it is a pass/fail event.

THANKS, THANKS AND MORE THANKS

A special thank you to Jimmy Rice for his leadership and guidance of the club this past year. Even with his busy schedule, Jimmy found time to attend club events and be there when the club needed him.

And to Linda Rice, who despite health problems and pressing family matters, kept us informed of club events and other important information as Editor of the newsletter.

Our hats go off to you and our thanks go to you!
