CLUB STUFF

The refurbishing of the Club trailer is scheduled for Sunday November 17th at 10AM. The trailer is at Jimmy and Linda Rice’s “old” house in Palmdale. Jimmy and Linda have moved to Rosamond. At press time, it is unknown if the trailer will be taken to their new place or remain at the house in Palmdale. If you are planning to help with the trailer, will you please contact Dominic Milano at 909-333-2710 or Don Magoon at 909-734-2939. That way we can let you know the exact location of the trailer. Please pack a “brown bag” for lunch and bring something to drink…a sander would be most helpful as well.

The February Field Trial has been approved by AKC. Don Magoon is working on judges.

Joan Payton reports that the supported entry is scheduled with the Antelope Valley Kennel Club Show on Sunday December 9th. We will have an area set up on the show grounds for a potluck after we show. Everyone can bring whatever they like to share, but call Joan so that we don’t have a bunch of salads and nothing else. We will also do the “doggie” gift exchange. Gifts are limited to $10 max…but be sure to gift-wrap it! Joan’s number is 661-589-3399 or email her at paytonpack@earthlink.net

New address and phone number: Linda and Jimmy Rice 4687 W. Avenue A, Rosamond 93560. Phone number is 661-256-4902…email is the same: rice@as.net

HUNT TEST REPORT
From Linda Ercoli

The test itself went very well. We received compliments about the judges, our hospitality and about how well the test was run which is consistent with our club’s reputation. Although entries were down this year compared to the previous years, we had folks come from far and wide from Arizona, the Central Coast, and San Diego. We had two new members (Marietta and Don) enter their GWP Dirk. Debbie Perrott earned her second leg on Cera, her Spinone. Karla Weber finished her setter Duke in Senior Hunter, and her girl Willie earned two Senior legs.

Many thanks to club members Linda Rice, who as usual did a GREAT job with the food; to the Morrison’s for pitching in, and to Jimmy Rice for supporting the club with his many entries. Our fabulous gunners, Mike Eisen and Brian Hoyle did a terrific job too!!

BIG BRAGS

Congratulations to the Magoons, Joan Payton and Franz Neuwirth! Ch Jay-Mar’s All That Glitters (Magoon’s) and Ch FairOaks Smoking Gun, JH (Payton), and Ch Neudorf’s GI Joe(Neuwirth) were announced as invitees to the American Dog Classic. The Top Twenty dogs in each breed, based on breed points earned through October 10th were extended invitations.

October 14th at Henderson, Nevada: Winner’s Bitch Cynister’s Afternoon Delight (Don & Cathy Magoon)(from the 6-9 month class, no less!!)

GWPCA NATIONALS

I left California on October 2nd to drive to Michigan for the Nationals. Had great weather and fabulous vistas on the way there. Of course, once the event started, so did the rain…luckily, the show was held indoors, but it got cold and nasty! The first day of the field events were bright and sunny, but the rain started again on the second through the fourth day! I left a day or so before the end of the field events. I drove a total of 5, 300 miles and was in ten states!

I took Stormie (Ch Silent Storm A’Brewin, MH, CD) and Major (RLB/SGR Sonofawitch) as my traveling companions. Storm took first place in the Veteran Bitch (10 and over) Class, and she would have had a 189 in Veteran Obedience IF she had decided to stay put in the long sit and the long down. I was only 30 feet away, but you know how ‘wires are!!!

Major didn’t do well in the Derby…our West Coast dogs are totally unfamiliar with running tree lines! He also kept coming back to see where I was (Bill Richardson was doing the handling). Major did a lot better in the Field Futurity, having two finds which he pointed with great style, however, his run was not that great! He did do a fabulous job at the Water Test, which he passed! Major also took first place in the American Bred class.

The Fort Detroit Club did a great job in putting the event on. Next year’s event will be in Nebraska and most events will be run by the parent club. In 2003, it is planned that the Nationals be held in Reno, Nevada, with the field events at Red Rock.

MEMBERSHIP DUES RENEWAL

Just a gentle reminder that membership dues are due January 1, 2002. There is a renewal form with this issue. Please take a few minutes to mail your dues to Fran…that way, it’ll be done with and outta the way!
