What is a “Rescue” and how can I adopt one?

Sometimes, due to unfortunate circumstances, GWPs must be relinquished by their original owners and placed into new homes. Sometimes GWPs are surrendered to animal shelters or picked up as strays. The GWPCSC tries to place these dogs in appropriate, loving homes, for a modest donation. We screen all of our rescue dogs for compatibility with children, cats, and for any health or temperament issues. We provide necessary medical care, alter and vaccinate rescues prior to placement. We can help you decide if a rescue is a good match for you. Rescues of all ages, puppy to senior citizen, become available. We also cooperate with our parent club, the German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America, which acts as the central repository of information of GWPs in need of rescue. If you are interested in a rescue in another state, we can help get it to you.

When a dog is rescued, there are expences associated with it. Boarding, feeding, travel and some times veterinary costs. Our rescue fund always needs help. You can help. Click on the credit card logo at left and make a donation to the fund using your credit card. Any and all amounts are gratefully appreciated.

Some questions that need to be answered before getting a dog:
      1. Why do you want this dog?
      2. What do you have to offer the dog??
      3. What will be it's place in the family??
      4. Who will feed, brush, walk and clean up after the dog??
      5. Who will take it to obediance classes??
      6. Where will the dog be during the day??
      7. Can it sleep inside?? With kids??

Don't expect a dog to teach children responsability. A dog needs love, attention, food and time.
Remember, a dog is a life long commitment.
